CIAC congratulates Merit and Chair’s awards to kick off Good Chemistry 2019

April 30, the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada (CIAC) announced the winners of its Merit and Chair’s Awards, recognizing leaders in Canada’s chemistry industry.

The ceremony was held at a gala dinner at the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, Quebec with delegates from the Good Chemistry 2019 conference and the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA) Steering Committee.

CIAC Vice-Chair and President of ERCO Worldwide, Ed Bechberger; Cal Dooley, President and CEO of the American Chemistry Council and Bob Masterson, President and CEO of CIAC. Mr. Dooley was the recipient of the CIAC Chair Award on April 30.

Held May 1-2, Good Chemistry 2019 is the premier conference for those in the Canadian chemistry industry and its extended value chain featuring experts in industry, safety and sustainability sharing best practices and lessons learned while living the ethic and principles of Responsible Care®.

“This year was a stellar year for nominees. Our winners reflect all that Responsible Care stands for, always striving for continuous improvement and raising the bar in safety, sustainability and leadership in the chemistry sector,” said Bob Masterson, President and CEO of CIAC.

Jean Bélanger, President of CIAC from 1978 – 1996 was also on hand to help hand out the awards.

“We are so honoured to have Mr. Bélanger in attendance. Often referred to as the Godfather of Responsible Care, he is credited with its development in Canada, and for guiding the initiative to international acceptance,” said CIAC Executive Vice-President, Isabelle Des Chênes, who served as MC for the evening.

Also in attendance were: MP Francesco Sorbara, keynote speaker for the evening; former president of the CIAC, Richard Paton; Cal Dooley, President and CEO of the American Chemistry Council; Marco Mensink, Director General of the European Chemical Industry Association; Hiroshi Watanabe, Director General of Japan Chemical Industry Association; the executive and members of the secretariat of the International Council of Chemical Associations.
