CHEMISTRY INDUSTRY THANKS FIRST RESPONDERS INVOLVED IN HWY 401 CHEMICAL SPILL

On behalf of the members of the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada (CIAC), our thoughts are with those affected by the tragic accident on Highway 401 near Brockville, Ontario yesterday that involved a chemical release.

“I especially wish to express our sincere condolences to the family who lost their loved one,” said CIAC President and CEO Bob Masterson. “I would also like to acknowledge the well-trained first responders who bravely brought the situation under control, and worked hard to minimize the impact of the incident for all those involved, and the surrounding communities.”

Chemicals play an important and often invisible role in the everyday lives of Canadians, and the industry makes every effort to ensure the safest mode of transportation is used to deliver its products. Through industry programs such as Responsible Care ® and TRANSCAER ® , we are committed to helping communities and first responders be aware of the products moving through their area, and have the training needed to respond in the event of an incident.

CIAC and its members remain committed to supporting transportation safety initiatives and first responder training programs across the country.
