Today, more people are concerned about the relationship between chemicals, food and products, and their health. Modern analytic techniques for biomonitoring are enabling detection of minute amounts of many chemicals in the human body (measured in parts per trillion). Scientists are able to detect these almost imperceptible amounts, but the health impacts are not well understood.
Governments are increasingly pressed to act without a full scientific understanding of the health risks associated with certain substances.
The
Chemistry Industry Association of Canada works with governments to address issues such as biomonitoring, under the presumption that some children's health problems and endocrine disorders are attributable to chemical substances. The Association also welcomes science-based studies that improve our understanding of the potential effects of chemicals on people's health, especially children. Under the
principles of
Responsible Care®, we encourage the right to know when it comes to chemicals and health, or impacts on communities and the environment.
The Chemistry Industry Association of Canada believes that its role is to encourage scientific research, and to assist in the understanding of the various issues that arise as a result of that research.
